The Top End Community Legal Centre is a not-for-profit community legal centre providing free legal help to people living on low incomes across the Darwin region and the wider Northern Territory. We believe that everyone deserves access to justice, regardless of their income or background.

What we do

We provide free and confidential legal advice, assistance and representation in areas of law that most affect our community, including tenancy, employment, family and consumer matters. We also deliver community legal education so that people can understand and assert their rights.

Our approach

Our small team of solicitors and community lawyers works alongside volunteers and student placements to reach as many people as possible. We prioritise people experiencing disadvantage, including those affected by family violence, financial hardship, and social isolation. Where we cannot assist directly, we refer people to other services who can.

Our history

The centre was established in 2015 to fill a gap in access to legal services in the Top End, particularly for renters, workers and consumers who could not afford private legal representation. Since then, we have grown our services while remaining focused on our founding purpose: making the law work for everyone in our community.
